Pharmacy First

 think pharmacy first

The Think Pharmacy First scheme allows pharmacists to diagnose and treat some minor ailments and illnesses. The scheme is open to all adults who qualify for free prescriptions. Pharmacy First takes advantage of the highly qualified expertise in health and medication of trained pharmacists, cutting out the need to visit the GP surgery for the listed ailments. If you qualify for the scheme then our pharmacists can prescribe free prescription medicines to treat your illness. Newline Pharmacy is a registered Pharmacy First pharmacy.

How Pharmacy First Works

If you think you are suffering from one of the ailments or minor illnesses included in the Think Pharmacy First scheme then you can visit your local Newline Pharmacy to ask for a consultation with the pharmacist.

When you visit the pharmacist:

  • Make sure you take along a full list of all medications that you are currently taking
  • If applicable, take along evidence that you are entitled to free prescriptions
  • You will be seen as soon as possible by the pharmacist. There is no need to make an appointment
  • You will be seen in one of our private consultation rooms where you cannot be overheard
  • Discuss your symptoms openly with the pharmacist in complete confidence
  • Always follow the pharmacists advice about the coorect treatment for your complaint
  • Do not assume you will require medication, as often following advice is enough to remedy your complaint
  • The pharmacist will advise you of other suitable health services if required
  • Follow any advice the pharmacist gives you about what you can do to make yourself feel better, making sure you follow the instructions on the label of any medicines provided

It also benefits GP surgeries by allowing doctor’s to focus their time on more serious health complaints, saving the NHS both time and money.
